He was born and brought up in Karmala, Solapur District, Maharashtra.

Akash Thosar made his debut with movie Sairat in 2016.

A former wrestler, Thosar was spotted at a railway station in Solapur by Bharat Manjule, Sairat director Nagraj Manjule’s brother, inviting Akash to audition for the lead role.
Thosar later starred in the lead role in Mahesh Manjrekar’s Marathi movie FU: Friendship Unlimited in 2017.
In the latest 2018 Netflix original, an anthology film, Thosar paired opposite Radhika Apte in the first story directed by Anurag Kashyap.

A bodybuilder, he was into wrestling before he entered the world of acting. He lost over 13 kg for his role in Sairat.
Prior to Sairat, he had never even visited Mumbai.
After Sairat, life changed completely – He became an instant star and gave 100s of interviews on TV and YouTube, appeared on popular shows like Chala Hawa Yeu Dya, The Kapil Sharma Show and other programmes.
He also started working on a new film directed by Mahesh Manjrekar as well, with young actress Madhuri Desai.
He was seen shooting in Italy for this movie.
