She was married to her Husband Dan Broderick and they were together from 1944–1989, the duo first met together in 1965 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
After dating for three years they finally deiced to get married on April 12, 1969, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe.
The couple welcomed their first daughter Kim born in 1970 and She gave birth to four more children: daughter Lee, (b. 1971), sons named Daniel (b. 1976) and Rhett, (b. 1979) and an unnamed boy, who died two days after birth.
Like normal American family everything was fine, Dan enrolled at Harvard Law School after completed his M.D. degree at Cornell University, and during this time his first daughter Kim was born.
Dan attended law school with the help of a student loan and Betty was the only main provider for the family and she continued working part-time, often selling Tupperware or Avon products while raising the children as a stay-at-home mom.
Later, Dan was hired by a law firm in San Diego, California. He and his wife along with kids moved to the San Diego community of La Jolla.
In 1982, Dan hired 21-year-old Linda Kolkena and she was a former Delta Airlines stewardess to be his legal assistant.
In October 1983, Betty accused her Husband of having an affair with Kolkena and accused her husband of infidelity.
However, Dan denied this allegation from Betty and claimed that he has no affair with his legal assistant.
In 1985, their marriage broke down and Dan moved out and took custody of their children after Broderick dumped the children on his doorstep one by one.
However, Dan admitted to Betty that he was having an affair with Kolkena.
Their divorce was finalized in 1989, four years after Dan filed the petition. Then, in the same year, Dan and Kolkena were married.
Dan and Kolkena were living at 1041 Cypress Avenue in the Marston Hills neighborhood near Balboa Park in San Diego.
Betty drove to Dan’s house with a revolver and used a key that she had stolen from her daughter Lee to enter the house.
Then, Betty shot and killed them on the bed and it occurred at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 1989.
According to the Report, Dan’s last words were “Okay, you shot me. I’m dead.”
