Dev Mohan, a newcomer who played the role of Sufi, is happy that he was able to get the attention of the audience with his first film.

This young man says that he is very happy to see the audience discussing the Sufi dance and the Sufi bank call in the film.

Dev hails from Thrissur and came to cinema while working as a mechanical engineer at MNC based in Galuru.

Dev Mohan says it was a learning experience from the first take to the last take about him who had never even seen a previous shoot.

Model, former Mr India finalist and actor Dev Mohan made his debut last weekend with Sufiyum Sujatayum, the first completely online Malayalam film release.

He has been paired alongside Aditi Rao Hydari in the debut, while Jayasurya is also part of the cast.

Dev is ecstatic that he got to make a ‘dream debut’ in his own words and is looking at cinema as a full-fledged career option soon.

An interesting thought is that the Bengaluru-based actor had his first tryst with showbiz in the IT hub, where he moved from Kerala after landing a corporate job.

“I have always been a fitness enthusiast and used to work out regularly.

It was one of my Iranian model friends Amin at the gym who suggested I should give modelling a shot and even try out Mr India.

I managed to make it to the top 15 contestants in 2016.

I used to also do do modelling over the weekends at ramp shows and fashion weeks when it did not clash with my work,” says Dev.

It was during one such time that a friend suggested that he should try auditioning for a Malayalam film and sent him the reference.

The same movie audition call lead came from another source too, which made Dev consider it.

“I was made to enact a scene from the film in Kochi.

I then called back a couple of days later and told that I had landed the titular character of Sufi in Sufiyum Sujatayum,” says Dev.

He does admit that he never knew dancing and his dancing was limited to the pubs in Bengaluru.

“I had to train hard to perfect the twirls and look effortless in the film,” he says.

The actor is now basking in the release and hoping to do more films. “Language is no barrier for me.

I will do good roles irrespective of where they come from,” he says.
