India Hicks, 53, the granddaughter of Earl Mountbatten of Burma, had a starring role at the wedding of the century.

Aged 13, she was a bridesmaid at the wedding of her godfather, Prince Charles, to the then Lady Diana Spencer.

The irony is that she – as one of the most famous bridesmaids of all time – never thought she’d be needing one herself, as somebody who had declared marriage simply wasn’t for her.

They have four together — Felix, 23, Amory, 21, Conrad, 17, and Domino, 12 — and they have also fostered another boy, Wesley, 23, in the Bahamas, which has been their home for two decades.
