Kamila Valieva 10 Fast Facts, Biography, Wiki

Valieva was born on 26 April 2006 in Kazan, Russia. She is of Tatar ethnicity. She has one pet dog, a Pomeranian named Lëva (Liova), gifted to her in 2019 by fans.

Valieva was enrolled in gymnastics, ballet, and figure skating classes at an early age by her mother but encouraged to focus solely on skating after turning five. She named Nathan Chen as one of the skaters whose technique and ability she admires.

In an interview showcased at the ISU Skating Awards 2021, Valieva hopes to become a psychologist after retiring from figure skating.

On 9 February 2022, while competing at the Olympics in Beijing, Moscow press reported that Valieva tested positive for a banned substance used for angina in late 2021.

However, considered to be a minor at age 15 by the Olympic committees, she may be protected from public declarations concerning the use of banned substances at the discretion of the committees, protections that are not extended to athletes over the age of 18.

Preliminary inquiry resulted in the official postponement of medal ceremony for the team event in which Valieva had competed earlier at the Olympics.

On 11 February, the International Testing Agency (ITA) confirmed that Valieva failed a drug test in December and revealed that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) had issued a provisional suspension for the incident, which Valieva successfully appealed and was allowed to compete in the Olympics.

Following appeals lodged by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Skating Union (ISU), and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to hear the case on Sunday 13 February with a decision scheduled for announcement on Monday ahead of her scheduled appearance in the women’s singles event beginning 15 February 2022.

The team event medals will not be awarded until the results of the hearing have been published.
