Kristen Welker was born on July 1st, 1976. She grew up in Philadelphia in the city’s Fairmount neighbourhood.

She studied American History at Harvard University and wanted to become a journalist since she was in sixth grade.

Kristen joined NBC news for the first time when she was 21 years old.

During her university years, she joined the network as an intern when she worked on the Today show.
