Matteo Berrettini is an Italian player who was born on 12th April 1996. He had a career-high rank of 20 of the ATP singles which he achieved this year on 24th June 2019. On 22nd July 2019, Matteo also reached a career-high world no.105 for ATP doubles.

Berrettini started playing tennis at the age of seven during the same time when his little brother, Jacopo Berrettini, was also playing the game. Matteo admits that his younger brother’s constant requests to play tennis persuaded him to go ahead with the game.

And when he started playing, he could not stop.

Berrettini made his main draw debut at the Italian Open after he earned a wildcard in the tournament’s pre-qualifying wildcard round in 2017.

He may have lost in straight sets to Filippo Baldi but did turn out to be the top seed in the Italian field competing for the last spot.

The twenty-three-year-old defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the final match and won the Swiss Open Gstaad. He went on to earn his very first ATP doubles as well, during the same event with partnering compatriot Daniele Bracciali.
