On 12 September 2003, Kay married Tess Daly at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Horwich, in Bolton.
Together, they have two daughters, born in 2004 and 2009.
Kay received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton on 9 July 2009 for services to entertainment.
Kay is a passionate supporter of Bolton Wanderers F.C..
